School Fit
In this thread, parents can discuss different schools that they have toured. It is a safe space for parents to share what they liked and disliked about each school as it relates to their child’s specific needs. It is also an open discussion of the key aspects of school “fit”.
Behavior Issues
In this thread parents can share resources that have helped their children with behavior issues and also their own opportunities in challenges navigating behavior issues with schools. Experts in this area are also able to share tips and tricks with parents about how to modify behaviors if they wish or how to mitigate behaviors in the school system.
Extra Tutoring/Education Therapy
In this thread parents can share resources that they have used for extra tutoring and education therapy for their child. This can include schools that have these resources available as well.
Tuition and Cost
In this thread parents can share about potential scholarship opportunities that are available at schools that they have found. This can include unique scholarship opportunities that may be available that are not posted on the school’s website. There will also be discussion of total value in a school, not just cost.
ESA Programs and Background
Educational Services Agencies (ESA) are programs designed to allow children opportunities for individualized education when finances are a barrier. ESA services may include: Instructional level services (such as education), Instructional support level services (such as therapy), and non-instructional level services. In this thread, parents and practitioners can share about ESA benefits that they have used and any potential or existing barriers associated with the program. There will also be programmatic information shared on various state programs and how to properly access funding.
Relocating for a School
In this thread parents can support each other while they undergo relocation to a new city or state in order to provide their child the education and support that they desire.
Speech Therapy, OT, ABA on Site in School
In this thread, parents are able to openly discuss which schools have these services available on-site, or if the schools allow external support for the child if needed.
Executive Functioning Resources
In this thread, parents can share executive functioning resources that they have found. This can also be an area in which practitioners and educators can weigh in with their expertise. Resources could be in the form of research, workshops, hands on skill assessments, and therapy centers that provide executive function support.
